On Friday, students experimented with how light travels. In a (mostly) dark room, they were charged with hitting a target with a flashlight beam. Then, they added a mirror to reflect light to the target. Next, they added a second mirror, and finally, a third. Students then drew diagrams about their experiment and wrote about their observations.
We had a visit form the Museum of Science. The presenter brought 3 different animals to talk about. Students learned about a brown tree frog, a bearded dragon, and a hedgehog and the different adaptations the species has made to successfully live in their environments. After the animal presentation, students broke in to teams to explore different skulls and decide what kind of animal they might have belonged to. They did a great job identifying herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores! After learning about different kinds of waves, student teams created a seismograph that could show variations in wavelength and amplitude. (Not sure what the difference is? Ask a fourth grader!) They were able to record on paper their methods for designing and building and testing their machines.
